Project Overview

The Challenge

PopCom was looking to revamp their WordPress website with a new design. The goal was to develop a nice looking site that effectively highlights their skills and accomplishments while also featuring a blog section, for sharing industry insights and news updates.

With a user-centered approach and the client's needs in mind, I focused on streamlining navigation, ensuring clarity in content presentation. From wireframes to polished prototypes, I leveraged Figma, mastering its advanced features to bring this vision to life—an exciting challenge as I was still sharpening my skills with the tool.

Up to that project, I had only toyed with Figma—never used it for a real project. Design systems? They were a concept rather than a tangible routine. I had come from an advertisement agency background, building landing pages with Photoshop. I knew that I wanted to switch gears and dive into tech instead of advertising, though.

This project served as a launch pad into the world of UX/UI design. To me, it was the chance to dive fully into Figma, understand the basics of design systems, and apply them in a real-world scenario. Learning a new tool wasn't exactly the goal; more importantly, this helped kick-start my journey as a UX/UI designer, and with it, the challenges of creating user-centered experiences.

The client provided a basic brand guide, but I made a few adjustments to better align their brand with the new digital presence. For typography, I chose Poppins for its excellent readability and modern aesthetic, ensuring it complemented the overall design seamlessly.

Takeaways

This was no website redesign; this was a personal challenge and a last push to start my journey toward UX/UI design. Starting with very little knowledge of Figma and design systems, I had to learn on the go. From rebuilding an information architecture to creating wireframes and prototypes, each new step challenged me to think critically, solve creatively, and maintain a focus on delivering a solution that meets the client's needs. I was able to take these vague initial concepts and set them into a polished, functional design elevated PopCom's digital presence.
